FAQ: Why stay at a Bed and Breakfast? Isn't it kind of awkward staying in someone's home? Won't I feel strange walking in and standing there in the middle of someone's living room? Will the rooms have privacy or can everyone hear me brush my teeth? Will i have a curfew? Where will i park my car? Will I have to join a long table at breakfast? In many cases these concerns are valid... but at the Gingerbread Cottage you enter directly on grade level and sign in at our front desk in our common lobby area - just like a hotel, only cuter. You do not have to go through any private spaces at any time during your stay. Privacy at our establishment is excellent because our rooms have secondary hallways separating them and party walls between them. Although we do expect all guests to be quiet after a reasonable hour, curfew is non existent at the Gingerbread Cottage and we have ample street parking. Our breakfast room has several tables so many seating solutions are possible. The good part about staying at our B&B is being warmly welcomed when you arrive after a trying day of travel, staying in a friendly, safe, family atmosphere, getting information on good local attractions, events, shopping and restaurants. And of course being spoiled by our excellent culinary offerings at breakfast. Having owned a large hotel and several restaurants, we provide a professional experience to all our guests. An excellent value.

Eco Policy: As well as the usual hotel ideas of using your towels an extra day, we air dry our laundry when possible, (love those white sheets billowing on a clothes line). We use local organic eggs ( from happy chickens) meats and produce wherever we can. We compost all compost friendly food scraps, we even recycle table scraps by feeding the local seagulls. We grow our own herbs, basil, some tomatoes, and sprouts. We use earth friendly, low energy Compact Flourescent and LED bulbs where we can (and recycle the old cfl bulbs properly). We use bio dish, guest and laundry soaps and cleaning supplies. We heat common area space with a high efficiency, fresh air EPA fireplace, burning wood scraps and pruned tree limbs from Dean's carpentry business. Our breakfast room is heated with low consumption electric heaters. Our water is heated with a high efficiency electronic ignition gas water heater. Generally B&B's - with their controllable energy costs - are by their nature earth friendly, when compared to hotels, but we go the extra mile and use all the latest energy saving methods available. Dean is already planning a solar grid project to further reduce the wear and tear on the earth.
